Our local libraries are a wonderful resource for activities, learning materials and a great way to be budget conscious by renting rather than purchasing materials. But did you know that Georgina Public Libraries also have a HUGE section of online resources that can be accessed anytime from home? From traditional materials like e-books and audiobooks to online courses, movies, music, even product reviews!
Overdrive
This service is a province wide collection of both books and audiobooks that have been purchased by your local library and are available for digital download.
If your library doesn’t have a title that you’re interested in, you can always request that they add it to their collection in future. Overdrive can be accessed directly through overdrive.com or through their dedicated app Libby.
Hoopla
Hoopla also provides access to audio and e-books, however their unique value is their collection of tv shows, movies, documentaries and instructional videos. Hoopla can even be connected to your TV for a better viewing experience! Hoopla has released TV apps for AppleTV, AndroidTV, Roku, and Amazon FireTV 3rd Generation as well as the Chromecast Ultra device. There are no waiting lists or late fees, and you can borrow up to 5 titles per month!
RBdigital Magazines
Download the app today on the App Store or Google Play to access digital versions of your favourite magazines. Even better, there are no holds and no check out fees and no expiry dates! RBdigital has a huge collection of magazines including favourites such as Harper’s Bazaar, Style at Home, Oprah Magazine, National Geographic and more! They also keep past issues available so you’ll never run out of magazines.
Lynda is one of the leading online learning platforms to help everyone learn new skills to reach their personal and professional goals. Lynda offers courses spanning a wide range of subjects including programming languages, graphic design, business, marketing, and web development. Lynda also offers courses in five different languages. Lynda.com recently transitioned to LinkedIn Learning, however all course offerings remain the same
Consumer Reports
With so many different places to look at product reviews online, how do you know what source to trust when making a big ticket purchase? Consumer reports has been a trusted resource for many years, covering everything from cars to appliances, TVs to car seats. Your library membership includes free access to all review scores and details so you can make the smartest decisions on where to spend your hard earned money.
